And the Oscars go to…

[Warning: This episode contains some minor spoilers]

First off HAPPY THIRD BIRTHDAY to the PodCavern! **thunderous applause** It’s been a helluva ride and there are no plans on slowing down this Top 5 train!

Now let’s get down to why we are all gathered here today. Movies. Oscar season is quickly approaching and every year on Ranked’s birthday we do intensive research (aka binge) to discover the best movies of yesteryear. 2019 started off seeming like quite possibly one of the weakest years in movies in a long time, but in the last few months of the decade it managed to put out some truly remarkable films that managed to flip that entire narrative. So join Tuong La and Hollywood Big Wigs Nivala Maharaj, Doug MacKendrick, and Melanie Moshi as they vigorously regale and argue over the best movies of 2019!

Again HUGE thanks to YOU the audience for listening and we are excited for another bombastic year of Top 5’s!

Ground Rules

  • Movies must have come out in 2019 in North America
  • Does not NEED to be an Oscar contender
  • Movies that are on our list are OUR favorite movies of 2019 and therefore don’t need to be considered the “best” for everyone else.
  • Documentaries count
  • THERE WILL BE SPOILERS IN THE EPISODE
  • Recently we put out a list of Top 5 Movies of the 2010 Decade.   and we want to be clear that the criteria for the best movies of the decade are different than best movies of the year. The short of it is that the Top 5 Movies of the Decade episode was weighed very heavily on what had the most influence over the movie industry whereas this episode is more based on what we liked more.
  • That said, I (Tuong La), put an arbitrary ground rule on this episode where I could not nominate any movie that I nominated in the best movies of the decade episode (just to spice things up and not repeat myself!).

Special Guest List and note by one Leslie Cserepy

Hello citizens of Ranked Nation.

It’s me, playboy billionaire philanthropist of the podcast, Leslie Cserepy. You maybe wondering why I, for the first time ever, am NOT on the annual “Top 5 movies of the year” episode.

Well ranked nation, it sickens me to say that I have been UNJUSTLY and ILLEGALLY BANNED from the airwaves of Ranked at the disgusting hands of one TUONGATHAN LA (That’s right I used your FULL NAME!)

Well it came as quite the surprise when I received a message from the supposed “host” that has ripped me BRUTALLY FROM YOUR EARS like a PUP from their mothers TEET…..asking for my personal Top 5 movies of 2019.

The only reason I agreed was so that I could tell you, citizen’s of ranked nation, THE REAL TRUTH as to my absence from the podcast. Tuong will try to distort you views of reality by saying I moved cities, and to that I say: FOR SHAME.

Anyway, here are my top 5 movies of 2019. I missed a lot this year unfortunately and as I catch up I’m sure it will change but for now this is my list:

5.The Irishman

4.The last hour of Avengers Endgame.

3. Us

2. Booksmart

1. I Lost My Body

If you want to hear my voice once again in the Podcavern I URGE you to message Tuong, tweet him, harass him on the street and MAKE HIS LIFE  A LIVING HELL so that I may make my TRIUMPHANT RETURN and the PRINCE of Ranked Nation may once again sit on his throne. Thank you.
